One of the major tenets of Burning Man is to leave no trace. The community has nothing but mad respect for the environment, though I would argue it's a complicated relationship. Visitors fly from all over the world to visit Black Rock City and the art installations definitely have a huge carbon footprint of their own.But what makes this tenet work is how it transcends beyond the Playa. Burners gather trash year around and use it in their art. For example, the sea of broken bikes... So, at least things that would otherwise be landfill find a new home–a better home.
