Food Shift: Reducing Waste, Strengthening Communities [video]
Presented by Dana Frasz of Food Shift at the Northern California Recycling Association (NCRA) Recycling Update 18 on March 19, 2013 in Berkeley, California.
Dana is a determined social entrepreneur with a passion for sustainability and social justice. Her unique vision is that food wastage can be stopped, reversed and transformed into self-sustaining micro-industries and locally empowered businesses.
In 2012 she launched Food Shift, an Earth Island Institute-sponsored project dedicated to developing long-term sustainable solutions to reduce food waste by working collaboratively with communities, businesses and governments. Her ground-breaking concept is to convert food recovery efforts from volunteer-dependent to financially self-sustaining systems. Her vision, in the process of reducing food waste, will also feed the hungry, create jobs, combat climate change and foster more sustainable communities.
