Philip Clarke: Tesco is waging war on food waste, even if it means we sell less - Telegraph
The retail giant’s CEO, Philip Clarke, says his company is in a unique position to fight the alarming amount of produce lost or thrown away by customers.
The volume of food wasted every year is simply breathtaking. The best estimate is around a third of the world’s food is lost or wasted – in fact, the amount of food wasted by consumers in rich countries every year is almost as much as is produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.
In South Korea, Tesco’s second-biggest market after the UK, headlines have highlighted food waste in Seoul following a ban on dumping liquid from food waste in the sea.
