As a step towards global action to mitigate the climate impacts of aviation, the EU has imposed a cap on CO2 emissions from flights arriving at or departing from EU airports.
Inclusion of aviation in the EU ETS Since 2012, emissions from international aviation are included in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).Like industrial installations covered by the EU ETS, airlines receive tradeable allowances covering a certain level of CO2 emissions from their flights per year.
