Staten Islanders can now recycle all types of rigid plastics | SILive.com
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Figuring out what is and is not recyclable just got a little easier. New York City residents will now be able to recycle all rigid plastics -- everything from toys to hangers to food containers -- in the largest expansion of the city's recycling program in 25 years, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Wednesday at City Hall Park.
The recycling expansion will keep more than 50,000 tons of waste each year out of landfills -- saving city taxpayers $600,000 in export costs.
